Healing with Yoga Nidra CD
I was introduced to Yoga Nidra in an 11 day yoga therapy training. The intention was to receive practical instruction on how to guide individuals with cancer and cardiac conditions into this relaxing state between wakefulness and sleep. Somewhat serendipitously, I suffered a concussion 6 days before the training. While my initial interest was to empower others in their own healing, I learned first hand how the mystical state of Yoga Nidra can be a holistic opiate for any illness or disease, including post-concussion syndrome. As part of a regular practice to maintain health, Yoga Nidra is also a systematic meditation anyone can do to reduce stress.
Yoga philosophy teaches that we are multidimensional beings. In Sanskrit, Pancha means five, Maya means illusion and Kosha means sheath, referring to the 5 energetic levels of being we experience as ourselves.
Anna Maya Kosha – the food body or physical body.
Prana Maya Kosha – the energy body, also called Qi, Chi or Life Force.
Mano Maya Kosha – the mind as it relates to thoughts & feelings through the senses. Vijnana Maya Kosha – the higher wisdom layer of intuition and insight.
Ananda Maya Kosha – the body of bliss and joy; the subtlest of all the sheaths that is our essential nature and true Self.
With deep gratitude to my teacher Nischala Joy Devi, and all the beautiful students who have practiced Yoga Nidra with me for the past 7 years, I offer this relaxing journey into the Koshas. Peace and Light, Megan
